|Job Title:||Project Director|
|Location:||Melbourne - Bayside / South Eastern|
|Job Published:||December 19, 2019 15:00|
You will be working with a leading contractor with both a national and international presence. The business has seen strong growth over the past couple of years, with a solid workbook in place and a strong pipeline across a variety of projects, so you will be joining the business at an exciting time. This company has a diverse range of projects across the Transport, Mining, Marine, Water, Industrial and Oil & Gas sectors, and a strong reputation for delivering challenging projects well.
With freshly awarded contracts, and an already busy workbook a new opportunity has been created for a Project Director to join the business in delivering these projects. Your initial assignment will be in Victoria's booming rail sector, leading the team delivering a $550M+ project in Melbourne's South Eastern suburbs.
This opportunity is best suited to a senior project manager/project director with previous exposure to the rail environment, as in addition to the civil and structural scope, there is significant track and rail systems scope.
You will be working with an experienced and highly regarded team within an alliance framework, with strong capabilities across all disciplines, to support you and your team. With a strong focus on innovation and a reputation for delivering complex projects, you will find the role both challenging and rewarding.
Managing relationships is a key responsibility in this role. As much as this project falls within an alliance framework, you will be the main point of contact for the client, and will be responsible for managing the high-level client relationships and interactions. In effect, if Kevin Devlin, Corey Hannett, Dan Andrews or his ministers are onsite or have questions, you're up. Additionally, you will have a line of reporting directly back to the head office and will be ultimately responsible for the progress and performance of your project.
You will need
To be successful you will be a degree qualified civil engineer (or similar), with at least 15 years’ experience industry experience, predominantly within the transport infrastructure environment (road and/or rail). Ideally, you will have experience working on major projects within the rail environment.
To be successful in this role, you will have had at least 5 years' experience in a project leadership role, and have had experience managing projects both internally (your team) and externally (clients & stakeholders).
You will have the support of experienced Project Managers below you to assist with the day to day running of the project, and a strong and supportive leadership structure above within the company. The role is very much client-facing, giving you the opportunity to build your name, brand and reputation both internally and externally within the industry.
As important as the qualifications and experience are, equally as important is your attitude. You will have strong leadership and people management skills, with high levels of emotional intelligence. It is important you have an understanding that the people in your team have lives, families, children etc. and you will need to be able to show empathy in managing situations that may come up.
As you will be working with a progressive company, you will need the ability to think laterally and you will have a desire to strive for continuous improvement, both in construction methodology and in team dynamics. You will have strong communication skills and the ability to build and foster strong relationships both externally (with clients, subcontractors and stakeholders) and internally (with your project team and broader business).
What's in it for you?
You will have, and be given, full accountability and responsibility for this $550M+ project. Whilst this is a significant challenge it is also a fantastic opportunity to continue to build a strong reputation for yourself as a Project Director on major projects and position yourself for future opportunities within both the business and the industry.
In return for your efforts, of course, you will be rewarded with a strong salary package, but what you'll really love are the career opportunities within a leading and innovative company, working with highly regarded & experienced leaders and the strong team-oriented environment.
You will be joining a contractor with a strong focus on moving forward and being at the forefront of the industry, not only in design and construction methodology, but also in how they look after their people.
